Personal Statement: Aimee Hampton
My passion lies with using community level education as a tool to build life skills around healthy living, life skills that will promote lifelong good health and improved total wellbeing of a community. Having a healthy lifestyle is an essential part of my own life and I something I strive to instil in my young family. I aspire to work with groups and businesses hoping to foster or nurture heathy living in their communities, healthy living which is equally enjoyable, sustainable and relevant to the lives of individuals and whānau in the communities they serve.
My formal education, career opportunities and life experiences have helped shape my attitude to food, movement, and achieving lifelong health and wellbeing. My tertiary qualification (Bachelor in Physical Education majoring in Exercise Prescription and Sport and Exercise Science), provided me with a sound knowledge base in human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise science, exercise prescription, sport / behavioural psychology and human development. Teaching (Diploma of Education) and facilitating has enabled me to work with, and help others understand and hopefully develop lifelong healthy habits. The thing I love most about being a health teacher, and a facilitator for 'Appetite for life', is the sense of pride and empowerment gained when an individual has been able to take control of their health and wellbeing based on the knowledge they have discovered and the life skills they have acquired.
I see Eat & Move to Live as a forum for supporting and growing meaningful community based health education, which can be weaved into everyday living in order to support lifelong health.
