Year 0-2 Wellbeing Resource
This wellbeing resource aims to promote and normalize environments, where eating well and moving more are fundamental, and sleep and relaxation are valued, for the present and future health and well-being or our tamariki and their families.
The resource is written as a inquiry based unit of work for a teacher to utilize over three 1/2 hour lessons.
Topics covered are;
1. Nourishing food (focusing on breakfasts) and drink (focusing on water as the first and best choice),
2. Sleep and relaxation,
3. How and why we move.
Learning tasks and learning intentions are linked to the health of the body and brain (taha tinana / physical wellbeing), to moods, feeling and emotions (taha hinegnaro / mental & emotional wellbeing) and to identity (taha whirua / spiritual wellbeing). The cross curriculum wellbeing resources complements and aligns with many of the warm up and short activities on sparklers.org.nz. Using sparklers along with this wellbeing resource, will ensure student wellbeing will be further nurtured and supported.
The resource has been trialed / reviewed by teachers of Year 0-2 year students at St Martins Primary School and Sumner Primary School in Christchurch. This resource / unit of work is now freely available to primary schools across Canterbury and beyond. The aim of current, and future cross curriculum wellbeing resources (year 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8), are to normalize health promoting environments, making healthy eating, physical activity, good sleep habits, and using relaxation to minimize stress, the norm.
